The Department Central State Archives of Stuttgart (Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart) holds the ministerial archives of the government of Baden-Württemberg and the archives of the former central agencies. As a Ministerial Archives it is responsible for the records of the supreme state agencies. The available archives can be traced back to the 8th century.

The State Archives is a treasure house of immeasurable value of the history of Württemberg and at the same time a modern institution, which makes the records available to the state agencies and to the public at large. In addition to the official records this State Archives also stores collections. Among these collections the audio-visual records must be mentioned.
