History and Description of the Land Baden-Württemberg and its Regions

... ensuring that everybody knows where his or her roots are

With these words the King gave the order to write the descriptions of the administrative district (Oberamtsbeschreibungen) in the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1820. They were the cradle of regional history in Württemberg.

... the South-West State Baden-Württemberg

A new beginning after World War II. The institution "Kreisbeschreibung" explains administrative districts as a small entity and a place for identification in rural and urban communities. A single description of each district is the base for the history of the whole Land.

... the Land and its Regions

The new millennium poses new challenges: globalisation and internationalism. Therefore it is more and more important to find one's own identity in a regional environment. The "Kreisbeschreibung" gives an answer to these new demands. In 2002 the books got a new layout, more pictures and maps, a more interesting text, so that it would be read by a wider public.

... the Baden-Württemberg of the Future

Projects in the internet are an additional offer. The regions with their beautiful countryside, their cultural and historical heritage are introduced to the user. The regions are proud of their past, yet innovation programmes will prepare Baden-Württemberg for the future.
