The President is the head of the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg.

He is responsible for the main focus and strategy of the Land Archives and conducts the meetings of the heads of department.

The President is concerned with the subject of archive management internationally and throughout the whole of Germany and represents the Landesarchiv externally. He is a member of the Conference of Archive Experts (Archivreferentenkonferenz) of the Federal State of Germany and the Länder and coordinates any participation in international and German federal state bodies.

The President is chairman of the selection commission for training. The President of the Land Archives is Prof. Dr. Robert Kretzschmar, his deputy is Leitender Regierungsdirektor (government director) Heinz Baumann, head of administration.

There is a staff unit within the President’s Department, which also acts as President’s press office.
