The Department Staatsarchiv Freiburg is responsible for the records of the governmental district (Regierungsbezirk) Freiburg. It holds the documents of senior and local agencies in this district (from 1806 onwards) as well as the valuable record groups of the central agency of the Land (Süd-) Baden from 1945 to 1952, which include the files of the State Ministries, the State Parliament, the State Court of Justice and the State Chancellery and also those from the Office of State President Leo Wohleb. Wohleb's personal papers are also kept in Freiburg. Worth mentioning are the records of the Baden district offices and courts, which might be of interest to local and regional researchers. Those who are interested in family and emigration history will find a lot of material in the copies of the church registers. In addition to that the department keeps an extensive valuable material of collections, such as personal papers, archives of noble families, maps, plans, posters and outstanding collections of photographs.
