Conference in November 2004

International meeting on the Piccard project 25th-26th November 2004

he colloquium took place on the 25th and the 26th November 2004 in the Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart in association with the then Landesarchivdirektion Baden-Württemberg. About 60 experts in the fields of watermark took part in the conference. The experts' discussion was followed by two public presentations for the general public on Friday afternoon.

The colloquium worked as a forum for the presentation and discussion of the Piccard project in relation to other online watermark collections. The technical potentials of digital presentation (especially linking databases) were a major focus of the conference. In addition to the presentation of the project and an exchange of ideas, discussion from the user's perspective was stimulated. It was particularly important to have the opinions of manuscript scholars and manuscript cataloguers on the structure of the online presentation and to find a common terminology for describing watermarks.
