The Department Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart is responsible for the records of the government of Baden-Württemberg, the Ministries and the State Law Court (Staatsgerichtshof). In 1990 an audio-visual archives was added, which keeps the digital records from all the agencies in the state and secures their accessibility.
At the Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart also archival training takes place for trainees at university and postgraduate level.
