These descriptions are informative and innovative. The idea to describe the districts was an idea of the 19th century. It was initiated by King William I of Württemberg with his "Königliches statistisch-topographisches Bureau" (an office that had the task to describe the topography of the territory and provide statistics). Since then the description of the administrative district (Kreisbeschreibung) has survived. The books are a true source for those who are interested in the history of Württemberg.
