With LEO - Land exploring, experiencing and examining online - a network is to be established that covers all relevant information on regional studies, culture and history in Baden-Württemberg. The project is lead managed by the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg.
The project is based on the idea of overcoming the diversity of offers one is confronted with when looking for materials, sources and literature about Baden-Württemberg: libraries, archives, museums, the statistical office, the regional authorities for the preservation of monuments, the land surveying office and other institutions and public bodies have each their own profile and content. The networked information system wants to pool the know-how of the diverse information sources and render possible a comprehensive search.
The mulitidimensional, multimedia-based access will feature search facilities for locations, personal names, a free-text search as well as a search via maps. Using the portal as a one-stop-shop one can retrieve information from different sources such as regional studies, literature, archival sources and deeds, statistical data and information on historical buildings, maps, images and pictures or other Internet resources.
The project primarily aims at users from Baden-Württemberg but also invites all people who are interested in the Land. The participating partners stand for the high quality of content and presentation. The cooperation bridges the gap between different institutions and uses the synergy effects of combining the existing search facilities.
The first step towards the realisation of the project was taken by drawing up a rough conception of the portal and specifying the participating systems and databases. It is intended to bring the networked information system on-line within two years time.
