The Archives of the State of Baden-Württemberg is partner in the MICHAEL Plus project which is funded by the European Commission. MICHAEL and its extension MICHAEL Plus stand for Mulitilingual Inventory of Cultural Heritage in Europe. It will offer simple and quick access to the rich variety of digital material from European museums, libraries and archives from different European countries. Work began in June 2004, with partners from France, Italy and the UK and the focus on implementing an innovative multi-lingual open source platform that will be equipped with a search engine. Since June 2006 eleven other European countries have joined the project. By the end of the project duration, the MICHAEL platform will be capable of retrieving digital collections that are dispersed across Europe. There will be many uses for MICHAEL, for example students and researchers will be able to discover information about European collections that might previously have been difficult to find. The services will also support cultural tourism, the creative industries and other interests. Further information: http://www.michael-culture.org |
